Annotation: 5-Minute MCH is a microlearning program designed to cover each of the 12 MCH Leadership Competencies. The program is structured using an easy-to-follow modular format designed to increase knowledge and skills through 5-minute intensive learning sessions. In module 1 of each competency, participants will learn about a new competency through a 5-minute video podcast. This includes learning what knowledge and skill sets each competency contains and how they are important in the daily work of MCH professionals. In module 2 of each competency, participants will receive 5 highly focused learning opportunities for that competency. Learners may take one or all of the trainings to sharpen knowledge and skills. In module 3 of each competency, participants will receive 5 implementation strategies to put knowledge to practice. Learners may share their experiences implementing the strategies on the 5-Minute Portal. In module 4 of each competency, participants will hear a 5-minute presentation from an expert in the field.

Annotation: Successful collaborations among public health professionals greatly enhance population health outcomes. This presentation discusses the importance of collaboration within public health, how to build a collaborative culture, and barriers to effective collaboration. Involving key people on a collaborative team is critical for successful collaboration, and this element is also explored. In addition, the presenters review different definitions of collaboration and flush out common themes that can be applied to all. Two interactive case studies are also discussed, in order to offer practical advice for building and maintaining collaborative teams.

Learning Objectives: • Assist in understanding your personal orientation toward collaboration. • Examine common themes among different definitions of collaboration. • Illustrate why collaboration is important. • Identify the steps involved in successful collaboration. • List the elements of a collaborating culture. • Provide a series of factors against which your organization can be evaluated relative to the ease of collaboration. • Identify four familiar impediments to effective collaboration. • Demonstrate why getting the “right” people on the team is important, even critical, to effective collaboration. • Provide a series of guidelines for forming a collaborative team. • Offer some practical advice for building and maintaining collaborative teams.

Annotation: This video, part of the TED Talks series, probes the "marshmallow problem," a simple team-building exercise that involves dry spaghetti, one yard of tape, and a marshmallow. The exercise forces people to collaborate quickly with the goal of building the tallest tower. The speaker discusses the lessons of collaboration that are learned throughout the process, including what types of teams succeed and what types fail.
