This tutorial provides succinct, but very clear introductory information on the basic outline of the Affordable Care Act, focusing predominantly on three key areas – health insurance coverage, delivery system improvements (e.g., health exchanges), and cost containment efforts. Expanding coverage premium coverage, employer requirements and the individual mandate are explained. The ACA provisions protecting particularly vulnerable populations (youth to 26 years, and those with pre-existing conditions) are explained, as well as provisions promoting primary and preventive care, and improving health care quality. A 2010-2019 Timeline for implementation is presented. Presentation slides are available for download.
