This video addresses the history and the current status of the Head Start program in the U.S. It begins by explaining the purpose of the program and its role in improving school readiness for children. Next, it describes the four major components of the program: Education, Health, Parental Involvement and Social Services. The presentation goes on to discuss the history of the program as a part of the War on Poverty in the 1960s. The video concludes with a description of the recent increases in funding for the program and the recent changes in funding structure; both changes will lead to more enrollees, a higher quality of programs for participants and more competition amongst Head Start grantees.
