Health Promotion Approach to Postpartum Health

ATMCH logoIn this Lunch-and-Learn session presented by the Association of Teachers of Maternal and Child Health's Workforce Development Committee, Jenifer Fahey, MSN, MPH, CNM and Edmond Shenassa, ScD, MA, describe from an epidemiological standpoint, the limitations of a risk factor approach to maternal health in postpartum with the goal of understanding the need to broaden addressing maternal health beyond mortality. They describe the importance of the postpartum period for maternal health, the importance of maternal perspective on the current challenges to the health of women, and relate the health promotion framework for maternal health. Throughout the presentation, they proved examples of maternal postpartum health promotion initiatives.
