Public Health Pronto

Public Health Pronto

Public Health Pronto Welcome

Public Health Pronto is the MCH Navigator's newest microlearning project that allows you to participate in short bursts of learning throughout the year to improve your public health skills.

If you liked the 5-Minute MCH program, this is for you! We have improved the format, while keeping the emphasis on just-in-time, incremental, communal learning that can be accessed on-the-go to match your fast-paced work life.

Getting started is easy. To begin, watch the video below. Then use this web portal to access materials through the Module Menu or by using the left-hand navigation.

How Does Public Health Pronto Work?

We address the eight Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals and three Health Transformation cores (in collaboration with the National MCH Workforce Development Center), putting key public health concepts into alignment with MCH priorities by using an easy-to-follow modular format designed to increase your knowledge and skills through 5-minute intensive learning sessions available through this web portal.

  1. In module 1 of each competency, you will learn about a new competency through a 5-minute video podcast. You will learn what knowledge and skill sets each competency contains and how they are important for your daily work. We will also share a motivational approach to keep you learning throughout the course of the competency. You will also be linked to the MCH Navigator's online self-assessment to further identify your learning needs.
  2. In module 2 of each competency, you will receive 5 highly focused learning opportunities for that competency. You may take one or all of the trainings to sharpen your knowledge and skills. You can share your learning experiences online with others who have taken the same trainings.
  3. In module 3 of each competency, you will receive 5 implementation strategies to put knowledge to practice. You can share your experiences implementing the strategies in your workplace on the 5-Minute Portal.
  4. In module 4 of each competency, you will hear a 5-minute question and answer session with Navigator staff and an expert in the field. You will have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the month and have your questions answered in an inviting, conversational format.

What Are the Benefits of Public Health Pronto?

Learning in 5-minute intervals to strengthen your MCH knowledge and skills is just the first step to better serving children, women, and families. Highlights of this program include:

  1. Make Learning Fun, Quick, and Easy. Review competencies in a fast, but structured 5-minute model that takes little time to complete, motivates your sense of learning, and provides critical training for your role as an MCH professional.
  2. Increase Knowledge and Skills. Combining the online self-assessment tool with 5-Minute MCH allows you to focus your learning in areas that you need to strengthen. You will learn real-life strategies to implement learning in your daily work.
  3. Learn as Part of a Group. As part of the MCH Navigator’s Learning Collaborative, you can interact with other professionals who have taken the program. This gives you the opportunity to share insights and ask questions to a group of fellow learners.
  4. Become an Expert. SHORT-TERM: Measure your pre- and post- understanding of each competency through the program. LONG-TERM: Use the online self-assessment to create a personalized learning plan for professional development across your career.
  5. Be Recognized for Your Learning. Use 5-Minute MCH and online self-assessment as part of your professional development activities, either individually or as a team-building activity with your co-workers or office.

Background of the Public Health Pronto Program

The MCH Navigator's initial microlearning program, 5-Minute MCH, was conducted from July 2015 through June 2016 as a means of providing continuous, segmented learning to encourage registrants into becoming more familiar with each of the MCH Leadership Competencies and to learn more at their own pace, all while being engaged in a collaborative, synchronous environment with each other and experts in the field.

Over 1,500 learners registered for the program, 4,200 responses related to improved knowledge/skills were collected, and over 100 comments on the functionality of the program were responded to. Data show that there was an average increase in self-reported knowledge from an initial 3.3 (on a 5-point scale) to 4.6. Similarly, learner confidence in their level of skill has increased on average from 3.1 to 4.2. Feedback on the program itself has been highly positive (92% of participants agree or strongly agree that the format is appropriate for interactive learning). As one participant said of a recent webinar, “[this is a] great use of 15 minutes to rekindle and recharge about important issues in MCH.”

Based on the success of the initial program, the 5-Minute MCH has been redeveloped into an enduring learning resource that can be accessed and used in an ongoing capacity. In addition, an ongoing need to expand the program to include the wider range of public health and health transformation topic areas was identified. Public Health Pronto addresses this need using the effective methodology of the 5-Minute MCH program.
