Health Equity in a System of Care for Children with Special Health Care Needs

Developed by:

Using the ATMCH ITA funding, our multi-university team engaged adults with disabilities and parents of individuals with disabilities to provide input on a course titled Health Equity within a System of Care for Children with Special Health Care Needs (strongly emphasizing children with developmental disabilities). We gained stakeholder input on the current course, modified the course based on the input and lived experiences of stakeholders impacted by a fractured system of care for children with special health care needs, and formalized the course materials for use by other MCH training programs. Throughout the stakeholder discussions, the importance of family-centered care emerged, so we have included a brief paper summarizing the literature on training the workforce on family-centered care.
